Interview with IPVanish VPN

0) Please tell us, what is your role (in the VPN Company, where do you stand, owner, marketer, advertiser etc)?

Lawrence Traynor, Director of Communications @ IPVanish VPN.   I manage the sales and marketing side of our business.  I’m also involved with several other aspects of our operations including customer support, network growth and software development.

1) Does IPVanish VPN keep any logs, IP Addresses, Timestamps, Bandwidth caps, Traffic or other data?

We do not log any user activity at all.  We respect our customers’ right to privacy and don’t think it’s anyone’s business what someone else does.    Everyone deserves freedom of privacy.

Also, IPVanish uses shared IP addresses, making it impossible to single out any user for anything.   We also do not limit the number of times a customer can bounce around our global VPN servers nor do we limit bandwidth, ports, protocols, server and protocol switching.  Our subscribers have peace of mind in knowing that we are not going to sniff, block or throttle their traffic.

2) What type of Encryption do you use?

All of our servers support all major VPN protocols—OpenVPN (TCP) and (UDP), L2TP and PPTP.  Our users can switch between any of these servers and protocols as much as they’d like.  Before users log onto the internet, they can establish their VPN connection. This sends all of their online data (emails, instant messaging, online banking, all online browsing, etc..) through an encrypted tunnel.  IPVanish blocks interception of communications from 3rd parties, like your ISP.

We do not do Cisco-based IPSec.

3) Where are your servers located, and what jurisdiction do you operate under?

IPVanish VPN is a global company with offices and servers across the globe. We currently have over 7,000 IPs and 110+ exit servers in 47 countries, and we’re re-investing every penny into expanding and improving our network and software.  You can check out a complete list of our VPN servers here:  http://www.ipvanish.com/servers/

With this many servers around the world, our users are ensured the fastest connection speeds no matter where they are. Every account has access to every IP and server; we don’t limit them to a select group.

4) How do you generally handle requests from law enforcement and copyright agencies?

We are based in the US and comply with all local, state and federal laws and users may not break these laws per our TOS. This is no different than any other legitimate company on the planet.

5) Do you have access to all your servers, and does the datacenter you use log?

IPVanish is a tier-1 VPN provider, meaning that we own and operate our own private VPN infrastructure.    Because we manage our own network, 3rd parties do not have access to our servers, or to the operating systems.  As I mentioned earlier, IPVanish also does not log any user activity whatsoever.

6) Does your service support bittorrent?

IPVanish does not block or throttle any type of traffic, including P2P traffic.

  1. 100% agreed with Lawrence Traynor that their VPN service is perfect for anonymity and privacy. but during my apnanalysis i found that their price is bit high as compare to their competitors e.g. PIA they are offering same services but cheap in price, so why people chose IPVanish services when they can get same services in low price
