Apple Pulls iOS 8.0.1 Shortly After Release

It’s been a bad week for Apple after hundreds of reports claim the iPhone 6 is bending in peoples pockets, now, earlier today Apple released iOS 8.0.1, pulling it almost immediately after it went live due to reports stating it “broke” hundreds of iPhones.

Twitter has been overrun with thousands of users reporting to be have updated to iOS 8.0.1 and begin met with a swath of issues. Apple pulled the software only hours after its initial release.

Just last week Apple rolled out iOS 8.0, one of the largest updates to iOS since 2009. Only one week later, Apple has pushed a software update, iOS 8.0.1, which is unusual.

Apple’s iOS 8.0.1 update was released earlier today in hopes of fixing a number of flaws including:

Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari

Instead, iOS 8.0.1 gifted its victims with WiFi outages, network issues, text message errors and cell issues. Apple’s recent update was also reported to be giving TouchID errors, Apples fingerprint recognition feature.

It is best you avoid updating to iOS 8.0.1 til Apple sorts out further issues.

I Upgraded to iOS 8.0.1, can I downgrade back to iOS 8.0?

Since Apple has reportedly ‘broken’ many devices, users can safely restore or downgrade their phone back down to iOS 8.

Steps to downgrade to iOS 8 from iOS 8.0.1:

Turn off ‘Find my iPhone’ via Settings > iCloud
Download Apples iOS 8 for your specific iPhone model (Apples official download links are continuously dieing)
Verify your iTunes is running the latest version by navigating to About > Check for Updates or visit iTunes.com
Launch iTunes and Connect your Device
Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) key and select “Check for Update”
Choose the version of iOS 8 you Downloaded in Step 2
Let iTunes do its thing!

It is best to stay away from iOS 8.0.1 if possible, but Apple quickly realized the issue and released a stable version of iOS 8 users can safely downgrade to. Apples iOS 8.0.1 has been completely pulled from the market and removed from their servers.
